Welcome to Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan's - RPICM

Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan: THE LEGACY

Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan (BVB) was established by legendary writer, statesman and academician Kulapati Dr. Kanaiyalal Maneklal Munshi in 1938, in Mumbai. The idea was to promote educational and professional training with the values, virtues and the culture of India. Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan (popularly known as Bhavans) was founded on Kartik Sud Purnima, Samvat 1995 (November 7, 1938), almost a decade before the advent of India’s Independence – with the blessings of Mahatma Gandhi.

Bhavans is a charitable public trust, dedicated to the promotion of Education, Art and Culture. In his inaugural address of Bhavans, Shri Munshiji said, “For many years it had been the dream of the Sahitya Sansad to crystallize its work, by creating a centre in which the ancient learning and modern intellectual aspirations of this land could combine to create a new literature, a new culture. The Bhavan will be a new association which will organise active centres where ancient Aryan learning can be studied and where modern Indian culture will be provided with a historical back-ground.” Today, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan is a very well-known institution with a large number of colleges, schools, cultural centres, and other institutions within and outside of India. Through these institutions, it makes a significant contribution to the academic, cultural, and social development of the entire nation.

The Bhavan provides education in a variety of subjects, including Arts, Science, Commerce, Engineering, Modern Management, Mass Communication, Information Technology. Even in foreign languages like French, Spanish, Russian, German, and Japanese, through its numerous schools, colleges and institutes dispersed throughout India. They range from kindergarten to postgraduate and research levels. Additionally, they also promote National Integration and Communal Harmony, Purity in Public Life and Rural Regeneration.

The Bhavans is registered under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860 and the Bombay Public Trust Act of 1950. Bhavan’s has 367 constituent institutions, 119 Kendras (branches) in India and 6 centres abroad.

History

Kulapati Kanhaiyalal Maneklal Munshi founded the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan a full decade before the advent of Independence, on November 7, 1938, as an ‘Adventure in Faith’. A faith in India’s Past, Present and Future. The founding father was known for being the most popular Gujarati writer, statesman, politician, freedom fighter and an educationalist.

The founding of Bhavan’s was based on the idea of preservation and propagation of Bharatiya Sanskriti (Indian culture) and Sanskrit, the mother of languages, the akshaya patra – the inexhaustible reservoir. Over the years from being a modest Indological research institution, it has steadily grown into a comprehensive, co-operative, apolitical, national movement with an international outlook. It seeks to inculcate a value-based life. The promotion of ethical and spiritual values in everything that it does.

BVB established Rajendra Prasad Institute Of Communication And Management (RPI) in 1961 at Mumbai as a part of Bhavan’s pioneering effort to promote non-formal education in modern professional subjects. Today RPI oversees examinations and other academic administrative matters in 29 of its constituent and affiliated colleges.

The main objectives of RPI are:

  • To equip the candidates with the latest available knowledge, pertaining to their chosen discipline.
  • To impart adequate professional knowledge and skills, so as to enable them to take up careers in their respective fields of specialisation.

The students possessing the first degree of any recognized University or Institution recognized by the University Grants Commission are eligible for admission to the various programmes organised by RPI.

Some of the Postgraduate Programmes have been recognized by the Central Government, many State Governments and a few Universities. Students passing the Post-Graduate Programmes in Mass Communication from Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s Rajendra Prasad Institute of Communication & Management are treated as equivalent to Post-Graduate Diploma in Mass Communication of Guru Jambheshwar University, Hissar

Director's Message - Shyam Parekh

RPICM stands as a testimony to Kulapati Dr. Munshi’s commitment to shape students, professionals and managers in an Indian context. He believed that apart from leadership, managerial skills, teamwork, motivation and professional skills, they are also expected to have a human approach to problems.

He also believed that without knowing one’s own country, its great women and men and without knowing the contribution made by them, just learning about the present day, may not have any relevance. Therefore, the professionals coming out of Bhavan’s constituent and affiliated colleges should have a special trait, stamp, and quality.

He strongly believed that no country can progress and prosper, unless it is founded and anchored in its heritage and values contributed and sustained by generation of its people. And he saw this even before globalisation made it imminent.

From 1961, this Institute has been evolving to take on the challenges that the modern times present to any educational institute. COVID-19 did bring us to a grinding halt. But we started work with increased zeal to translate Munshiji’s vision into action, for the 21st century. Re-inventing the legacy courses, developing new syllabi and imagining new courses for the future generations is how we are evolving into a future ready institute.

We have developed Standard Operating Procedures (SoPs) for the affiliate institutes and centres, planned extensive online support for the students and pooling of subject experts from across the country and many more initiatives have been planned. These steps will help us to serve more students across the country.

We will always strive to serve students and working professionals alike. This, while ensuring that they can pursue courses offered by RPICM at a time and convenience, that doesn’t collide with their work timings. Students get a chance to acquire some skills even while they are pursuing graduate studies. Very soon, we are going to make available blended and hybrid mode courses for students who can’t attend classes regularly or want to join us online
